Surgery Day!

July 29, 2010

Well, it's been a long day. We arrived at the hospital on time, did last minute paperwork and Trace was prepped for his surgery. He did OK with the IV, didn't care for the tape though. We were then taken to the room where he would go after surgery to wait until it was time for surgery. When they came to get him, we were allowed to go with him to OR waiting. There we met with the anesthesiologist who promptly gave him some happy juice as he was very very nervous. Maw Maw Jeanelle came in and visited with him for a few minutes before they took him back. I HATED watching them wheel him away...

Then the waiting began.....

......

......
......
Seems like forever.....

2 hrs later the surgeon comes out and says, "well, that is not what we thought it was.

" WHAT???

I ask for more details, but in true doctor fashion, he would not speculate.

He just said we would have the pathology by Tuesday.

And now we wait for him to come back from recovery.

We were soon called to go and meet Trace as he made his way from recovery back to the outpatient room. He was half sitting  up laughing and talking to the nurses. LOL. This little procedure didn't seem to bother him at all. No complaints of anything. My brave little boy. :)

Sisters were there waiting to spoil him of course.

Pics from the day.

Soon we were on our way home to hopefully rest. We get home and still no complaints of pain. I give him his pain meds anyway and he slept well the whole night.

Vacation Bible School & Surgical Consult

July 19, 2010

Just dropped Trace and Kelsi off at Vacation Bible School.

The sugical consult went well. We reviewed the ultrasound report and he diagnosed a Brachial Cleft Cyst. He recommends removal of the cyst and we scheduled an outpatient procedure for next Thursday July 29th.

Surgeon said it would take about 45 minutes to an hour for the procedure and that they would send off the cyst to verify diagnosis. The hospital will call us with time to show up but he is not to have anything to eat after midnight. Hope it's an early time. As long as everything goes well and pain is controlled he can go home that same day.

I called his pediatrician after we got home to let her know what surgeon said and about Trace's surgery next week.

Hmmm surgery. On my 11 yr old. YUCK!

Time to See a Surgeon

July 15, 2010

Dr. Verma calls with test results. All labs look good--YAY!

However ultrasound shows a cyst-like mass which could be tangled lymph nodes.

OK???

She suggests we see a surgeon here locally for a consult...now.

We request a specific surgeon, however he is out of town for the month, so we are scheduled to see another local surgeon next Monday July 19th.

Lump

Wednesday July 14, 2010

I took Trace in to his pediatrician to check on what I thought was a swollen lymph node under his right earlobe along the jawbone. I had been monitoring it for a few months since I am a nurse and he had no other symptoms. No enlargement, no redness, no fever, no pain. NOTHING. It has been the same size since I noticed it a few months ago.

After her exam, she decided to send us to get some lab work and an ultrasound of the area. And my heart hit the floor... I have been a nurse for 13 yrs and worked with his pediatrician at the hospital on many many occassions. She knows me, she has known Trace since birth (when he had so many lung problems) and she knows that I had been monitoring it.  So she didn't want to wait any longer and see. And since he had no infection symptoms, no antibiotics.

So off to the hospital we go for the tests. She ordered some lab work and an ultrasound of the area. Trace didn't care for the needle stick, but he was a big boy. The ultrasound was painfree and he liked being able to see the inside of his neck. The tech wouldn't tell me anything. :(

Now we wait for reports and results.

We had a great week in Nashville in early June. We went for the Gary Allan Fan Club Party and CMAfest. The first activity of the week long country music festival was the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge. Getting there a little early, we parked and really didn't know where to go since I had to go to will call to get our tickets that I had previously ordered, received and then promptly lost. I asked a parking attendant who, we later found out, pointed us in the wrong direction. The place we ended up, we find out pretty fast, is the place where the stars park and come in for the game. HMMMM....not a lot of people over there...maybe a crowd of about 40?? So we stand around a little while and see what happens.

After a few minutes...the country music artists start showing up...some in their cool sports cars, others in their jacked up trucks and some even came in their tour buses. We could see them drive up and get out and make their way over to where us and the others were standing around. Most graciously stopped for autographs, pictures and conversation. A few others would rush on in. We saw the Oak Ridge Boys rush on in to the stadium, as well as Jaron, the Band Perry, and a few others.

Here are the ones that Kelsi was able to meet, have them sign her hat and take a picture. Most stood around and talked, meeting each and every one that wanted a picture. Very impressed.

Julianne Hough--saw her play in the softball game and later in the week at a concert. Personally, I think she should stick to dancing. Her performance was a little much for country music..IMO.

Luke Bryan--very sweet and very cute!!

Chuck Wicks---signing her hat

Chuck Wicks....smile! :)

One of the Gloriana guys...loved his spiky bleach blond hair and tattoos.

Other Gloriana guy...signing her hat.

Other Gloriana guy...smile  :)

Another great...Craig Morgan...she actually ditched Justin Moore to go see Craig!! Met him at his truck as he was getting out. :)

Up and coming female artist...Mallory Hope

And saving the best for last....JASON ALDEAN.. signing her hat!!

And a great country boy smile! :))))

After doing all the meet/greets we went in and enjoyed a great entertaining celebrity softball game also including Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Joe Nichols, Melissa Peterman and many more!! We had great seats right behind home plate and look how cute that scoreboard is.

Leaving afterward, traffic was being re-routed to get keep traffic moving along, but it got us lost in downtown Nashville, as they directed us out a different way from the way we had gone in. But we obviously made it out alive after going the wrong way down a one way street. :)))
