You gotta keep you eyes open for the potential in a find at a flea market. I found this old stool hiding on the floor in a darkened area of our local flea market. I have been shopping for props to use when photographing newborns and thought this was the perfect size for a baby to lie on. BUT...I wasn't too fond of the old upholstery on it. So I took it home and yanked off that rusty orange/red fabric and found underneath just a wooden box.
I had purchased this great houndstooth fabric in the remnant discount bin at Hobby Lobby and I used the old piece that I removed as the pattern and cut out a new pretty piece.
I then took some cotton batting and layered it up to provide a soft padded stool instead of hard wooden one for the babies.
I then got it all in position and even, then started nailing it on, using small carpeting tacks, pulling and tightening as I worked my way around.
Still debating on whether to add some trim or not, may just pin some on when I want an extra touch.
And, here it is, ready for a newborn. :)
Very cute! I love the new fabric you picked. We're on a big home remodel kick. My husband and I installed new wood flooring in our walkin closet and next we're installing counters. I need to redo my 3 year old daughter's room a little, too. I'm trying to hunt down a little vanity with mirror for her that I can paint or refinish.
