Out and About

We traveled down to Lake Charles yesterday to visit and spend time with Katie. It is her 20th birthday today but she has 4 tests this week, and she couldn't come home this weekend. So, we took home to her. ;)

We picked her up from college, enjoyed the alligators on the banks of the bayou, stopped at Raising Canes and then went down to the boardwalk along Calcasieu Lake to picnic. We had fun enjoying the lake breezes, feeding the seagulls and playing in the playground. There is a memorial dedicated to those who died in the twin towers and the Pentagon with actual beams from the towers and a limestone block from the Pentagon.

We got lost going back to the college and ended up down around the Port of Lake Charles. We had stopped on the road to enter the info in the GPS, when all of the sudden there was the Port Police asking up what we were doing and if we were taking pictures of the port. We weren't taking pictures of the port, but we did have 2 cameras and 4 camera phones, so I'm glad he didn't ask if we had cameras!! It was kind of scary but reassuring that Homeland Security is at work even in a small Louisiana port. I guess because it leads directly into the Gulf of Mexico.

It was a fun day and we were sad that she couldn't come home for her birthday, but proud that she takes her classes seriously and is making smart decisions. Happy Birthday Katie!!!
