Dreams Come True Day #1

June 6, 2011

Day Numero Uno of our 2 week Make A Wish Walt Disney World Trip combined with our annual family vacation. WOO-HOO!!! Lots to celebrate on this trip...most importantly: Trace's continued cancer free status!! We are also celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary, Kelsi's graduation from high school and Kate's graduation from college. We have tons to be thankful for and really look forward to some family time and making lots of magical memories. Our first trip to Disney was exactly 10yrs ago when Trace was only 2 1/2 yrs old. Who knew 10 yrs later we would be celebrating a "cancer-free" diagnosis for him. I remember on one of our trips sitting behind a Make A Wish family on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride and thinking how special it was to see that bald-headed little boy enjoying that ride, smiling and laughing with his family.

Never ever thought in a million years that in a few short years that would be our family. But it is and we will make some wonderful treasured memories and be very grateful that Trace is now cancer free.

Now....on to the trip!!

Stewart and I left the house around 8am to go drop Oscar off at the boarder and go to the airport to pick up our rental car for the trip. He was none to pleased with seeing the boarder as he knew he was being left once again. He already goes every 3 months when we go to Houston for Trace's checkups. Hope he doesn't bark and carry on like he usually does.

We get to the airport around 9:30 to get the rental and they have rented for us a 2011 Toyota Sienna van. Tons of room and very comfy!! We hurry home, load it up and hit the road around 11:30. We are driving to Pensacola for the night as we have planned a surprise for Trace tomorrow morning.

We get to Mobile around 4pm and stop quickly to visit the USS Alabama battleship. Stewart and Trace have toured the ship before, but they had heard of a new plane they got in and wanted to see it. So we pulled in there to rest and see the plane. While there a WW2 vet was promoting his book and we enjoyed talking with him. We purchased his book for Trace since he expresses a lot of interest in WW2.

After quickly viewing the outside display of airplanes and "military stuff", we hit the road again. After a few potty breaks we finally made it to Pensacola. We checked into the Best Western Blue Angels Inn right on I-10. Very nice hotel and we had a room right on the 1st floor near the front desk. We got Kelsi and Trace settled then Stewart and I went to find some dinner. We found a Cracker Barrel and went inside. I know they are usually dark inside for the ambiance, but it was really dark, even though the parking lot was full and there were lots of people walking around inside and out. We found out they had some power outages due to a storm that had blown in an hour before and that they could fix anything that didn't require the grill or fryers. We ordered some Chickin'& Dumplings dinners and Meat Loaf dinners along with some salads and headed back to the hotel. We all ate and then headed to bed....gotta surprise for the morning and then driving all the way to Orlando.
